Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
The bible speaks often of the believer growing. I think we can look at this growth in two ways. First, we grow into maturity as believers much the same way a babe grows into adulthood. Second, we grow into spiritual maturity, a maturity of mind and heart, that mimics the beauty of a flower growing. The bible tells of growing in 1Pe 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: Jesus also mentions this to Nicodemus in John chapter three, saying that the believer must be born again. The analogy is quite clear and apt. just a newborn baby comes into the world knowing very little beyond crying, so a newly born again believer lacks spiritual wisdom and knowledge beyond crying out to God, “Father, Forgive me, a sinner!” God will guide us, then, in the “nurture and admonition of the LORD.”
Our second “grow” is found in this same nurture and admonition. This is so, that, as we grow, we grow in the right direction. Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: As we grow up in this world, we go to school, learn things, go to college, begin to gain wisdom, enter into the work force, use our gained knowledge to interact with people. Spiritually, growing up into Christ doesn’t necessarily mean becoming a preacher, or a missionary. It simply means to learn of the wondrous things the LORD has done for you and then telling of that to others. We really don’t have to be bible scholars to tell of our personal experience. We just have to be obedient children of the LORD and work with what He has given us. In doing this, we exercise our faith, make it stronger, so then that we can:
2Pe 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. As we grow in grace we find that wonderful ability to use the fruit of the Spirit, Love, first of all, Joy, Peace, as testimonies in our lives. None of us started out our lives knowing what we were to learn to do. We all begin as little bundles of potential. We have to learn and grow into what we become in life. The same applies to our Spiritual life. We grow in grace and knowledge of our LORD by reading our bibles, going to bible studies, and listening to good Pastors of God. We can also do as James the Apostle says, Jas 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Jas 1:6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. Learning is sometimes not easy. Things get in our way. But, if we have a true desire to learn of God, He is patient to teach us, and soon we find those intrusions fading away. God Bless!
